Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

Hours: Monday-Thursday 8.30am-5pm Friday 8.30am-3pm


We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced commercial Senior Construction Buyer to join our fast-paced team. The successful candidate will take a proactive role to manage the strategic procurement of multiple projects and provide guidance and feedback on cost and buildability. The role will involve collaborative working with our QS, Design and Contracts Management teams.

 

Responsibilities:

Candidates will be required to demonstrate their strong technical & contractual background. As a Senior Pre-Construction Buyer, you will be responsible for:

·         The Procurement on multiple projects in relation to sub-contract and material packages within mechanical division

·         Comparison and analysis of tender returns including recommendations on awarding of work packages

·         Working collaboratively with company QS and Design team to ensure participation in Value Engineering activities at pre and post contract phases

·         Understand specifications and seek approval for alternative products or processes where there is a commercial advantage

·         Negotiating supply chain agreements and disseminate these across the procurement and operation teams

·         Sourcing both nationally and internationally, negotiating with existing and new suppliers

·         Maintenance of purchasing database, continuous assessment of suppliers and subcontractors to pre-agreed KPI's

·         Managing people, resources, and relationships efficiently to ensure the effective delivery of the Purchasing function

·         Identifying risk and set in place strategy for management and minimisation of risks prior to appointing package sub-contractors

·         Engaging in pre-contract negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers

·         Assist in developing, leading and advising the team to maximise the potential to ensure consistency in delivery of all projects.

·         Engage, manage, and develop supply chain throughout UK & Ireland.


Qualifications & Experience

·         Hold a degree within a relevant subject, however candidates without a degree and can demonstrate suitable work experience will also be considered.

·         Commercially aware with knowledge of construction within the UK & Ireland

·         Experience of managing construction related budgets and key performance indicators

·         Strong background in Purchasing within the construction industry and understand the functions of specialist suppliers

·         Proven experience of relationship building with Client organisations and consultant representatives

·         Demonstrate a solid technical background in the building sector

·         Proficient user of the complete MS Office Suite

·         Possess the ability to work within tight deadlines and within budget

·         Able to read and interpret drawings with the ability to measure quantities


 

The role is ideal for a Buyer with several years’ relevant experience looking to move to the next level or an experienced Estimator, Site Manager or Quantity Surveyor who has a keen interest in Purchasing/Risk Management.
