Lab Technician

Job Title:                Laboratory Technician

Reporting to:        Laboratory Manager

What you’ll be doing

You will be undertaking routine sampling and testing of construction materials to ensure customers receive high quality products.

Working both in the laboratory and concrete production areas, you will be examining materials to improve their performance and eliminate faults.

Your responsibilities

·          Sample fresh concrete, carry out temperature and flow tests before manufacturing concrete cubes

·          Record sample details on A46-3 sheets and lab daily production sheet

·          Update and print each day’s cube crushing schedule using computer software

·          Demoulding cubes from previous day's production and crushing the scheduled concrete cubes

·          Placing the previous day's cubes into curing tanks and removing the next day's concrete cubes from curing tanks

·          Inputting cube results into the online portal daily

·          Collect aggregate sample for moisture testing

·          Sieve analysis and moisture testing of aggregates

·          Report observations, including any quality issues, to Laboratory/Technical Manager

·          Assisting with concrete trials

·          Housekeeping

·          Ongoing training and development as part of the laboratory team

General Duties

·          Complying with all company policies and procedures, including adherence to all Health and Safety rules onsite.

·          Carrying out other functions deemed necessary for the effective operation of the company

Essential Criteria

·          Experience in accurate record keeping

·          Able to competently use Microsoft packages including Word and Excel

·          Good communication skills

·          The ability to work using your own initiative as well as working as part of a team

·          Understanding of Health and Safety at work

·          Flexibility in work hours

·          Driving Licence

Desirable Criteria:

·          Knowledge of a UK Accreditation Service accredited laboratory practices including sampling and testing

·          Previous experience working to British Standards and Euro Codes

Remuneration and Conditions of Employment

·          Working hours are 40 per week, based on Monday to Friday 7am-3.30pm, with overtime, plus weekend overtime where needed and occasional work on bank/public holidays (normally on a rota basis).
