Job Summary


Our client are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with sound knowledge of Environmental Management in Construction (Civil Engineering)

Reporting to the Group SHE Director through the Project Manager and Construction Environmental Manager, the successful candidate will provide help and advice on a specific multi-million pound project known as the A6 Dualling (Randalstown to Castledawson) but may from time to time also be called upon to visit, audit, and provide advice and guidance to Construction projects in other regions.

The post holder should have a proactive and enthusiastic attitude and be able to interact with the site teams, various business units and the Client’s team to ensure effective relationships are established.

This is a significant role within the business as we continue to endeavour to protect the Environment, help the Company meet our agreed objectives and targets, and ensure ongoing compliance with Environmental legislation.


Job Description


The Project Environmental Manager shall:


·         Be the point of contact for advice in dealing with Environmental issues for the Project Manager, the Site Operatives, Subcontractors, the relevant Statutory Bodies, other relevant stakeholders and members of the public

·         Prepare, implement, maintain, manage and regularly review and revise the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and implement the CEMP procedures

·         Prepare the Handover Environmental Management Plan

·         Prepare, maintain and regularly review the Site Waste Management Plan and maintain records relating to the reuse, recycling and disposal of waste materials

·         Conduct site environmental compliance audits

·         Coordinate routine environmental monitoring, recording and reporting

·         Maintain a daily log, recording all environmental issues, events and dealings with third parties

·         Coordinate collection and collation of CEEQUAL evidence and assist the integrated team in achieving the highest potential CEEQUAL rating achievable for the scheme

·         Implement pollution control procedures and contingency plan and investigate environmental incidents

·         Assist with and/or deliver relevant training programmes

·         Deliver induction programmes and tool-box talks as required

·         Review company and subcontractor’s paperwork with regard to environmental issues

·         Prepare information for regular site environmental advice notes

·         Prepare legislation updates and advisory memos

·         Prepare and deliver Environmental briefings if necessary

·         Prepare and assist with applications and the ongoing maintenance of licence conditions and renewals of waste exemptions, licences and permits

·         Liaise with the Employer’s environmental advisors and Statutory Bodies as required

·         Assist the Employer in liaison with Statutory Bodies, other key stakeholders, and local community

·         Assist with any other activities which may be necessary in order to protect wildlife and the environment during the works


In addition, from time to time the post holder may be required to:

Assist with responses to PQQ, Bid, and tender questions


Person Specification



·         Current Chartered Membership (CEnv or CEcol of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) or hold an equivalent professional qualification in the ecological and environmental field. 

·         Formal environmental qualification

·         Environmental experience within construction/ civils field

·         Knowledge of relevant Environmental legislation

·         Demonstrate a sound understanding of construction processes

·         Experience of Environmental Auditing

·         Holder of CSR / CSCS / Safepass card

·         Demonstrate strong communication skills

·         Awareness of CEEQUAL

·         Good numeracy and literacy skills

·         Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word and Excel.

·         Full driving licence



·         Formal Internal Auditor course

·         Formal Lead Auditor course

·         Experience gained from working on or with site teams

·         First Aid at Work certificate
